Rising Damp
Treatment The solution is a chemical Damp Proof Course, the most appropriate type to be determined by our property surveyors on site and Damp Proof Course installed, wherever possible, in accordance with BS 6576. Reasons for specialist re-plastering Persistent rising dampness will dissolve mineral salts out of the ground and they are left in the wall and plaster as the moisture evaporates. These salts, such as Chlorides and Nitrates, being hygroscopic in their nature, will absorb moisture from the atmosphere and will cause the plaster, which they have contaminated, to remain damp even after the new Damp Proof Course installation is controlling the rising damp. To avoid the risk of damp patches persisting, particularly when the relative humidity is high, it is necessary to renew any plaster so affected with a waterproof and salt retardant render of sufficient density to resist the migration of these salts to the internal surface. It is also necessary to retain the residual moisture in the brickwork during the required drying-out period. N.B. We cannot over stress the importance of this re-plastering which should be left to the Damp Proof Course installer, to prevent a spilt responsibility should a claim arise under the terms of our guarantee.
